A Note from Jimmy
“Remodels are unpredictable by nature — you never really know what’s behind a wall until you open it up. What I can control is how we handle it when something unexpected shows up. We tell you right away, we tell you what it costs, and we keep moving.”
— Jimmy Stewart, Founder & Owner, CMW General Contractors
Renovation FAQs
Questions Hill Country homeowners commonly ask before starting a remodel.
In most cases, yes — it depends on the scope of the project and which parts of the home are affected. A kitchen or bathroom remodel is often manageable while living in the rest of the house, while a larger addition or full-home renovation may require temporary adjustments. Jimmy will walk you through what to expect for your specific project during the consultation.
It happens more often than you’d think, especially in older Hill Country homes — outdated wiring, water damage, or structural issues that weren’t visible beforehand. When that happens, we stop, explain exactly what we found, and give you clear options and costs before moving forward. No surprise charges buried in a final invoice.
A single-room remodel like a kitchen or bathroom often runs 4-8 weeks depending on scope and material lead times. A larger addition or whole-home renovation can take several months. CMW gives you a realistic timeline upfront based on your specific project.
For most remodels, yes — CMW can guide layout, material selection, and finish decisions without a separate designer. For larger additions or structural changes, we’ll coordinate with an architect as needed, but Jimmy stays involved throughout to make sure what’s designed can actually be built as planned.
Yes — barn-to-home conversions are one of our specialties. If you have an existing metal structure on your property, CMW can assess whether it’s a good candidate for conversion into a full living space. Visit our Barndominiums page for more on how that process works.
Yes. Jimmy personally manages every CMW remodel from the initial walkthrough through the final coat of paint — including the day-to-day decisions that come up once demolition starts.
