Common questions we hear from Hill Country homeowners who are getting ready to build.
Custom home costs vary significantly based on size, finishes, site conditions, and scope. In the Hill Country, you can generally expect to budget anywhere from $175–$350+ per square foot for a fully custom build, depending on the level of finish. CMW will give you an honest, detailed estimate based on your specific project — not a vague range designed to get you to sign a contract.
A typical custom home build runs 10–18 months from breaking ground to final walkthrough, depending on size, complexity, and site conditions. Design and permitting add time on the front end — budget 2–4 months for that phase before construction begins. CMW will give you a realistic timeline in your proposal and keep you updated throughout the build.
Not necessarily. Many clients come to us while they’re still in the land search phase, and we’re happy to consult early. Having a builder’s input during lot selection can save you from costly surprises — rocky terrain, poor drainage, setback restrictions, and utility access can all significantly affect your build cost and timeline.
For custom homes, architectural plans are required. CMW can recommend architects and designers we’ve worked with successfully in the Hill Country, or we’re happy to work with one you’ve already engaged. We stay actively involved throughout the design process to make sure what gets drawn can be built on time and on budget.
You work directly with Jimmy — from the first conversation to the final walkthrough. He personally oversees and works on every CMW job site. You won’t meet with a salesperson who disappears after signing the contract. The person you talk to at the start is the same person you’ll see on your property every day.
